Organizations who are eligible to provide CME include those whose mission and function are: (1) providing clinical services directly to patients; or (2) the education of health care professionals; or (3) serving as fiduciary to patients, the public, or population health; and other organizations that are not otherwise ineligible.  Organizations should also have already offered at least two CME activities through Joint Providership to apply to be an Accredited CME Provider.

Yes, at this time, the State of Maine still requires Maine licensed physicians to complete 3 hours of opioid prescribing education every two years.

Activities that can be used to satisfy the requirements of the MATE Act include:

  • CME Activities already completed that were approved to offer opioid prescribing education
  • Previously completed Data-Waived Trainings
  • CME Activities offered by an approved provider that are designed to provide training on opioid or other substance use disorders
