Alfred DeMaria is an infectious disease physician by training who worked at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for 35 years in a variety of positions related to infectious disease epidemiology, disease control and laboratory sciences.  He became interested in his predecessor William Augustus Hinton as a result of working at MDPH in the public health laboratory named after Hinton, from exploring archives of Dr. Hinton’s work that survived and from a long association with the Public Health Museum in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
