The MMA Committee on Physician Quality (CPQ) represents the MMA in statewide discussions about physician quality. They review state and federal quality initiatives, address issues of ethics and professionalism, have oversight of peer review programs, and develop protocols for peer review and quality improvement activities.

Peer Review

For more than thirty-five years, the Maine Medical Association has made available an external peer review program to Maine hospitals, practices, and other health care facilities. Our peer review teams include credentialed board-certified physicians with active medical practices.

Office-Based Quality Improvement Program

The MMA’s Office-Based Quality Improvement Program, founded in 2000, offers confidential reviews of medical practices’ quality improvement programs. It also facilitates collaboration among practices and the MMA’s Committee on Physician Quality to improve the quality of their services.
